India threatened tariffs and America increased business by 20 percent… Why is Trump so confused about Putin?

While US President Donald Trump is showing strictness to countries like India to buy oil and weapons from Russia, the trade between the US and Russia itself has increased by 20%. This was revealed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit in Alaska on 15 August. After Putin’s statement, resentment is being expressed about the double attitude of the Trump administration in India.

Putin’s big disclosure
Putin said, “Incidentally, when the new administration in America came to power, bilateral trade started growing. It is still very symbolic, yet our growth rate is 20%.” He also stated that there are immense possibilities in investment, digital, high-tech, and space exploration between the US and Russia. This increase has been recorded since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.

America’s tough stance on India
Meanwhile, the US has imposed 25% of additional tariffs on India, which will make the total fee 50%. This punitive fee will be applicable from August 27. The US says that it is a matter of concern for India to buy oil and weapons from Russia. However, India has made it clear that its import is completely based on market factors and energy security.

India’s displeasure and statement of the Ministry of External Affairs
India’s Foreign Ministry condemned the move and termed it inappropriate. The ministry said that the US has targeted only India’s oil imports in recent times, while countries like China and the European Union (EU) are importing Russian oil on a large scale without any punishment.
India says that its aim is to ensure energy security for 1.4 billion people.

Priyanka Chaturvedi’s attack
Attacking the Trump administration on social media, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote, “According to Putin, America-Russia has increased by 20%. China’s share in Russia’s exports is 32%, and the EU’s is 62%. The EU’s LNG imports in 2024 have reached 17.8 million tons. It is bullying.”

However, no consensus could be reached on the ceasefire. Trump said that the conversation was good and many issues were agreed upon, but some big issues remained unresolved.
