Brazil came with India against Trump’s unilateral tariff, President Lula made this plan by talking to PM Modi

The two countries have stood together after the unilateral tariff imposed on India and Brazil by US President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Lewis Eneasio Lula Da Silva spoke on the phone on Thursday (7 August 2025) and agreed to work together.

Discussion on unilateral tariffs

Brazilian President Lula Da Silva posted on X and said, “We discussed the imposition of international economic landscape and unilateral tariffs with Prime Minister of India. Brazil and India are the two most affected countries so far. We insisted on working together and dealing with the challenges of the current situation.”

‘It was agreed to increase cooperation in energy, defense sector’

PM Modi posted on X and said that it was agreed to increase cooperation between the two countries between the two countries in business, technology, energy, defense, agriculture, health and people. He said, “There was a good conversation with President Lula. Thanked him for making Brazil’s journey memorable and meaningful. Virtual payment platforms of both countries discussed

Prime Minister Modi and Lula also discussed the target to increase their bilateral trade by more than US $ 20 billion by 2030. According to the Brazilian PMO, the two leaders reiterated their commitment to take India-Brazil strategic partnership to new heights based on this conversation. Lula said that we exchanged information about the virtual payment platforms of our two countries including PIX and the UPI of India.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (6 July 2025) imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on India citing oil purchases from Russia. With this, the US has now imposed a total tariff on India. The initial fee will be effective from August 7 while the additional fee will be applicable from 21 days after August 27.
