Pakistan Floods: ‘India left the water, the corpses have flowed …’, Pakistan is still drowning, Khwaja Asif is not getting rid of poisoning
The devastating floods in Pakistan’s Punjab, Sialkot and other areas have disturbed life. So far, more than 800 people have died. More than 12 lakh people are affected. 2.5 lakh people have been displaced. About 1,432 villages have been hit by floods. Crops have been destroyed, business is stalled and thousands of families are forced to live in relief camps. 700 relief and 265 medical camps have been set up by the government, but the situation at the ground level remains very serious.
During the flood -affected Sialkot tour, Defense Minister Khwaja Mohammad Asif made a peculiar statement. According to him, with the flood water released from India, piles of corpses, cattle and debris came to Pakistan. He said that this debris is hindering the relief work of the local administration. Asif further said that Sialkot is located under the waterways released from Jammu and whenever India releases water, there is regular floods. However, Asif also admitted that India had informed Pakistan twice before releasing water in rivers.
Social media ridicule and criticism
Khwaja Asif’s statement became increasingly viral on Pakistani social media. People criticized him and said that the government is accusing India to divert attention from its preparations and the failures of the infrastructure. Many people, while satirizing, wrote that the flood comes from the water and not from the corpses.
Indo-Pak Water Relations and Indus Water Treaty
This dispute has come up at a time when the Indus Water Treaty is already postponed between India and Pakistan. Water data was exchanged under the treaty, but India stopped it after the Pahalgam attack in April 2025. Despite this, India had shared information about bad weather and potential heavy floods to Pakistan in view of public safety.
Historical level flood
According to the Pakistani Irrigation Department, for the first time after 38 years, Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers are in spate together. This has made the rescue work more difficult. In many districts, army and relief workers are campaigning round the clock.
