Ukraine’s President Volodimir Jailonsci has agreed to make ‘some agreements’ amidst speculation of a ceasefire agreement with Russia. Jailonsky said that he is ready for ‘some agreements’ on his demand for the ceasefire before any conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, provided some security guarantee for Ukraine is established.

The Ukrainian president’s statement came at a time when Russia denied the US claim that a bilateral meeting is underway between Putin and Jailonski. Ukraine and some ally in Europe are constantly demanding a ceasefire, including issues such as security guarantee and land disputes.

Waiting for ‘security guarantee’ before negotiation with Kremlin

Jailonsky said, ‘The format that has been proposed includes some agreements. I told President Trump that in any situation, if we really want to take this plan seriously, then we will need a round of peace to make a complete plan to end the war.

On Wednesday (August 21, 2025) during a conversation with the media, the President of Ukraine said that Ukraine is waiting for the ‘Security Guarantee structure’ to be established within seven to ten days before setting the date of conversation with Kremlin. With this understanding, our goal is to organize a tripartite meeting and this is my argument. Referring to Trump’s statements, the Ukrainian President said that there will be a meeting between Trump, Putin and Jailonski finally.

Ukrainian army needs security guarantee

However, Ukraine has agreed to guarantee security guarantee by spending about $ 90 billion on American weapons with the US. Jailonsky said, ‘I believe this has been a strong weapon agreement, which the Ukrainian army needs as part of the security guarantee.

On the other hand, Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov said on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) that Kremlin has proposed to send high-level officials to interact with Ukraine in Istanbul. However, it is not yet confirmed that Russia supports the meeting at the leadership level.

No progress in the direction of ceasefire

Referring to the conversation in Türkiye, the Russian Foreign Minister said that Moscow and Kiev had agreed to the exchange of prisoners, but there was no progress in the direction of the ceasefire. Lavarov also said that discussing the security of Ukraine without Moscow is ‘a dream and no one goes’.

Lavarov further said, “There is no response from Ukraine yet, but after President Trump’s interaction with our President on Monday, Putin not only proposed to continue the talks, but also said to consider increasing the level of delegation heads.”
